They aren't completely protected from anyone else overhearing their words, especially operating within neutral territory. She isn't dishonest, but when it comes to this, she doesn't overshare, either. There are so many little innocuous things that, when said, could be taken out of context by someone whose devotion is more zealous than her own. It sculpts her answer.

I see it being very difficult for me to adopt Meridian's cheery heroism. [With some stern humbleness, Caren continues.] Restoring what has been lost... I lack the divine authority to make that kind of decision, whether it should have happened or not. I would say that, as motivated by the future as we may be, it's imperative not to lose sight of the current moment. Remembering the past prevents repeating it, of course, but you are injured now.
