The letters are the manifestation of High Arcana, and if Misa tries to remember the shape of them later, they will literally not be formed. The beauty of High Arcana was that they couldn't be known by anyone who didn't know it to begin with -- which made it difficult to teach of course -- and really, most mages couldn't learn it anyway.
