[Byleth actually stared at Shez for a few seconds, his bafflement plain as day on his face at being the one delegated to 'chatting up' duty. It wasn't a secret that he was the most socially inept person in the Kingdom forces, though Bernadetta likely had him beat at times, and Jeralt had to intervene more than once on his behalf when he had accidentally caused offence from an innocently insensitive remark or having his dull tone misconstrued.

But, after the moment of confusion, he turned the suggestion over in his mind and saw the merit. While he didn't have the pointed ears, the others in this city assumed him to be one of their own escorting a 'pilgrim'. There'd be no suspicion in him conversing with them, whereas Shez, as an outsider, would be placed under much more scrutiny, especially near a place that was so well-guarded. No matter the people's affability, Byleth got the sense that they didn't want to rouse their ire. If they could transform into dragons too...

...

...but more than that, he saw the kindness for what it was. Even with the disadvantages of overtly being an outsider, Shez was charismatic enough to sell a polar bear snow. No, he wanted to let Byleth take a moment to soak in this fantasy world, to not be distracted stealing away inside of a temple and hide away from prying eyes. He wasn't sure how to say thank you, but he sent a rush of gratitude his way through their Advocate bond. He hoped he understood.]

I... can try. I'm not too experienced in 'chatting' up, though.

[Byleth's mind was suddenly utterly bereft of any and all topics. Performance anxiety, right now? Ill-timed!]

Should I pretend to be lost...? Or... oh! I can say I was stung by a bee and... need medical aid!
