I don’t know if that’s better or worse.

[It means they haven’t been the only ones scheming to escalate things, sure, for whatever meager excuse it provides in justifying their attack on Springstar and its Tribune. Landing the first strike gave them strategic leeway, but they took things too far and it’s not going to get any better after something like that. Not easily at least.

There’s that bone-deep instinctual part of her that is always spoiling for a fight that can’t help but be glad for real blows to finally be traded on this conflict, because that’s easier than the tip-toeing and the scheming. She knows what to do with that. The part that hates all of this—the part that cements it as an irrefutable fact that healing someone like this will always be way more satisfying to her than any fight—makes it all way more complicated, though. If this is supposed to be a war with Shard-bearers at the forefront, then they shouldn’t be dragging civilians into the violence too.]

We should’ve slowed down after we got that warning. Instead we were too busy making a mess of their home to stop them from doing the same to ours. And now we’re just gonna have to fight harder.

[She sighs as she slows to a halt in her work, and there’s an undeniable trace of bitterness in it. There’s no way she could ever be happy with the way things ended up playing out, even if there was an air of inevitability to it all.]
