I'd rather the man had lived for something meaningful rather than died for it, so I can't say I disagree.

Much as the man insisted that he'd gotten on in years, he could still have had many to come, could have seen his daughter happily married and perhaps met grandchildren.

I think the world His Majesty means to build could be a much kinder one. At least, I see the potential in it — in the initiatives he's taken so far. From all I've heard you say, I have to believe your aims are the same.
