Though honestly, he doesn't even know if the dryad would be harming the tree, just the people who got too close. Could the dryad perhaps be a means of protection? He isn't sure, but it really does seem dangerous to keep it around. People needn't suffer in such a way just for the crime of getting too close to a tree they cannot help being 'reborn' under.
