[Hayame silently puts the supposed charm into Matsui's hand, and that is that.

She should have known better. What a fool she had been, being desperate enough for company from someone she'd identified as at least somewhat familiar to her that she would get involved in something as emotional and foreign as these lanterns of reflection. Even in the tavern... some woman clasps her hand in thanks until she jerks it away, there are so many kind words from strangers that make her vestigial mane bristle, and-

What she has said lingers in the back of her mind as she imagines... Perhaps she had been hasty, to feel something like kinship with a tsukumogami. It was likely that same desperation again, she is sure, but the more lanterns they give out... the more people she sees who are apparently willing to bare their souls and openly admit the people they left behind, the ones they mourned...

She becomes sure that she cannot do it.

When the lanterns are distributed, and there are only two remaining... Hayame bows slightly to the spirit, her voice colder, more removed.]

You must excuse me here. I wish you well in your "prayer".

[She had helped. Surely that was enough.]
