[ Eustace might not be a sportsball, but he can understand the concept of having a dream, only to have that dream cruelly yanked away from you without pretense or preamble. It fuckin' sucks, to say the least, and there's no doubt all those regrets are being amplified now by the depressive effects of alcohol. He's been through this song and dance plenty of times before.

[ He can only go off what he sees and hears, which isn't much, but there's no mistaking the way the boy's voice had grown just a beat quicker, a touch louder, when talking about playing at nationals. It won't be the same here, true, but there's nothing saying whatever he builds here won't be just as good or better.
