"There were two others, besides the familiar. Though the sheer amount of spells to learn from was rather overwhelming, so don't take my choice of spells as the limit."

So he describes the other two spells: the first, a curative spell that can heal minor injuries; and the second, a spell that can be used to calm and befriend wild beasts. It's reasonable to assume from the choice of spells to assume that he's not exactly a combatant.
