[ Look at this ragtag little group of Unharmonized folks banding together in order to better survive out in the wilderness. It would cuter if they weren't all tired and a little bit hungry all the time.
But, well, between Gray's cheery pink apron and Gen's pointed ears and tail, swiveling and flicking this way and that, there's enough cuteness to go around in their otherwise dreary location. Especially whenever that tail perks up in slow wag instead of an irritable thump, like right now at Gray's approach. (In fairness to Gen, if Eustace had a tail it would also be wagging right now.) ]

[ He isn't fully aware he's muttered it aloud to himself, though maybe Gen's new doggy ears can pick up on it nonetheless. Gray gets a louder, more intentional greeting as Eustace pokes at the fire with a stick, making sure it's still at a healthy blaze. ]

[ It's been some time since he's had to camp for longer than a few days at a time, but between old familiar habits taught to him by his family and the necessary survival skills forced upon him by various missions, it hadn't been too hard to set up a campsite and hunt for small game in the surrounding area to add to the pot cooking over the fire. Not that gamey stew is anyone's idea of fine dining but hey, better than nothing.
Actually, all of this is a familiar enough setting for him that he looks unusually relaxed, ears casually facing forward as he checks on the stew. There's still an alertness to his eyes as he pauses to scan their surroundings every so often and the gleam of his gun resting only a few feet away is impossible to miss, but for anyone who's spent more than a week in his company it's clear he's in his element.
Maybe he also just likes hanging out with people he likes, who can say!!!! ]
