[Hayame finally comes to rest in a tangle of limbs, horseflesh, and woman, but though she gasps for air she cannot breathe. The wind has momentarily been knocked from both sets of her lungs, and as they struggle to expand, as she desperately tries to get up, her mind attempts to take stock of her fall.

Everything is broken.

Nothing is broken.

Something is broken.

Her bow, at least, is intact, though her arrows have spilled from her quiver. One lies near the metal something that had spilled her to the ground, and her one eye picks out… it’s a spear. The haft of a spear she recognized, bloodied. So this thing, and that woman, too… ?

She manages to get her upper body off the ground, hissing as it aggravates scrapes and cuts from the fall along her side and face, she angrily brushes her hair aside, looking for the creature…]

Liem-

[What she intends to be, what? A warning? A call to defense? barely croaks out of her empty lungs and so she must throw herself back to her feet as the thing moves in that eerie, weird way towards him-

But she doesn’t make it. One of her fetlocks bursts into a ball of pain when she tries to put her weight down… and Hayame flounders instead, barely catching herself on her hands and crying out in pain despite her fierce bite into her lip to muffle the sound.

A jinba who couldn’t run was useless. It was the flensing post for her, or the dogs-

No. That was then. Now, it was stand or die here in a forgotten corner of the woods in the dark like a weakling, so she at least gropes for an arrow, for the shaft of that abandoned spear.

Get up. Get up. Get up—-]
