The flashes of magic and inhuman screeching are what draws Howl's attention to the one-on-one battle below him. Although the scene is partially obstructed by trees and darkness, Howl feels the pull of the Stargazer. Up here, hundreds of feet above the ground, with the wind rushing past his ears and the cold air rippling through his feathers, it takes him an extra moment of concentration as he tries to place who exactly this Shard-Bearer is — but then he catches a flash of soft lavender hair.

Hythlodaeus...? That has to be him. The shape coming towards you from the sky is me. Don't be alarmed.

He'd rather not draw any arrows in his direction, a plausible possibility considering his current appearance. Howl tucks his wings back slightly as he descends to the ground in wide, controlled circles. As he gets closer, he can see Hythlodaeus clearly now, along with the fearsome creature that seems to be laying dead a several yards away from him.

Howl's clawed feet land with a whumpf in the space between his friend and the monster. He shoots the corpse an uneasy look (are we sure it's dead?) before approaching Hythlodaeus.

"I heard and saw the commotion. Are you alright?"
