[ This was already a poor omen, that he had made his way down to the tree, when he could resist the pull no more, only to find that most of, if not all, of the shard-bearers had made their way down there. He had tried to leave, too, as soon as the roots had closed, even flicked a knife at the spaces between roots, trying to pry them open to no avail. He did not like being down here. Beneath the roots of the tree, where he had started to hear laughs and whispers that reminded him of the last time that they had been down here.

So he is here, settled between Sebastian and Set, a Meri and a Zenite both, who struggle themselves, but at least one would not betray him, and Set... he thinks Set would also not betray him. That is a cold comfort underneath the roots of the tree, and he looked up from his thoughts -- the phantom ones, that made him think his daughter levied accusations at him -- toward a different child, and he tipped his head.

It actually, legitimately took him half a moment, before he said:

Ah, you mean the thing you left behind?

[ He asks, instead of confirming. He had it, yes. Or rather, he had had it, before Aetós had pulled them to this odd realm. Would they end up back to a land where these things existed later? After this was all done? If it was done? ]
