Unfortunately people can't have both. Either everything returns to the way it was, or we create something new. The former means I won't be with you, and the latter means accepting the loss of what once was. If you want to know my opinion of it... take kintsugi for example. When you break something and put it back together — even if you put it back together with gold — it's not the same anymore. Would you be happy if you brought back your world, but something was a little bit off? Do you think you'd be able to stand it if you could feel where its seams were sewn back together, or would it bother you?

[Maybe she's being to abstract for a child? But really, he's fourteen. He should be able to handle that much.]
