[ Ah.

Childe is correct, and the realization of it settles across Zhongli's features like the approaching storm outside. He cannot give Childe a choice and leave him here at the same time. The return to Springstar is inevitable, not only for his duty but for Zhongli's own well-being. The itch of being away for so long is already eroding at his senses.

But if he admits to such a thing, then Childe wins the argument and whatever negative pre-conceived notions will remain. It would be the exact opposite of what Zhongli was trying to achieve here.

Which left Zhongli with only one option left - maneuvering within the confines of a contract.

Zhongli's goal was two-fold: 1) ensure Childe's safety and 2) return to Springstar to resume his duties. If Childe returned with him to Springstar, the completion of both becomes trivial, but will Childe's contrary nature allow him to go back with Zhongli? If not, he must ensure Childe's safety here without a doubt before returning - a much more difficult and ambiguous task, but ultimately doable.

Zhongli places his hand over Childe's, fingers wrapped around the palm. For the moment he does not welcome or reject the gesture, choosing instead to keep it as is. Childe's answer to the next question will determine the final outcome and Zhongli's next course of action.

Tell me your choice first. Will you come with me to Springstar or do you intend to stay here in Highstorm?
