[ To Gray, change has always been difficult; she grew up surrounded by people stuck in the past, traditionalists to their core, and it trapped her into her role as well. So she can't help admiring people with the strength to transform themselves — even if it came at great cost. Perhaps the cost makes it even more admirable. She's witnessed how easy it is for people to stick to their stubborn beliefs to the bitter end, rather than face the vulnerability of a new beginning. Maybe Akua's crime can't be forgiven, but Gray isn't the judge to pass sentence for it. ]

I don't really know about punishment or redemption, but if you're trying your best to make up for things, then I think that's enough.

[ It's easy for her to say; she wasn't a victim of Akua's deeds. But to Gray, it really is the thought that counts. ]

... Maybe that's a naive way of looking at it, though.
