[The companionable way that Voryn gravitates into him as they walk seems out of place to Liem, as do his strangely high spirits in the face of the cities' current state. There is perhaps something not quite right here, something strange striking this otherwise level-headed man with giddiness despite the gravity of their topic of conversation. He is not prepared to guess at the cause, though he does his best not to be distracted by the warmth of another body bumping up against his arm.

The idea that the Tree's affliction has been the result of intentional interference still makes him doubt and worry in equal measure. If one were equipped with the means and the motive to do such a thing, what would it mean for the rest of Kenos? He hesitates to consider.

I wonder, [he agrees. Unlike the mirrors in the castle on the Scorching Isles, this one seems to show their reflections plainly, without any trickery. But when he incants a word of prayer and gestures to complete his spell, he feels the presence of magic like a hum in the back of his eyeballs.]

There is magic here, of some kind.

[Like most of the magic in Kenos, it proves largely inscrutable to him. The aura could indicate almost anything. After another moment, however, and another shimmer of magic through the air, he adds,] It is not evil, at least. But that doesn't mean it isn't dangerous.
