The backdoor out to the alley is easy to spot, but he's already learned that he's going to have a difficult time navigating both it and the dolly, so he turns to look behind him for Lottie. True teamwork in action!
Except it doesn't look like any of his charges are... moving. At all. Not even from the usual jostling of the dolly; there's a nonsensical... stillness to them. Which means on the one hand he probably could just open the door himself, but on the other hand... ]
