It's in Howl's nature to chase the things that pique his interest, but he has a stalwart respect for others' privacy — even if only because he wishes others to give his privacy the same respect. If he were to ask Amos if something is wrong, would he answer? And more importantly, would the gentle man see it as an excuse to start asking questions in return?
