[Be the better man. He spent years trying to make that a reality, with relative success. The peace it bought him might have been tenuous, but it was bloodless and they had all been better off for it. Here too, he should heed that philosophy. Ignore the taunts so precisely laid out for him here and walk away from it all.

She’s not the only one from home I’ve had a chat with. [Did Silco know that Vander had not been the only one from their world to claw free from the soil and awaken here in Kenos mere days ago? Let him ruminate on that little morsel.

Vander won’t give him long, though; all the posturing had gone on long enough. As loathe as he was to take the bait, if Silco was feeling suicidal enough to provoke him like this, then he would grant him his wish. [And he pushed forward with sure-footed speed, one fist pulling back for a low swing. His whole body followed the arc of his arm, ready to use the momentum to keep his distance from that blade if it came swinging.]
