I'm assuming she's mostly finding out like, obvious stuff to a local.
Cooking is certainly a worthy thing to look up, though. A culture's food can tell you about them too.
[Armchair anthropology is a hobby, apparently.]
As for me...just some basics. Nothing too exciting, but interesting enough. Gives the city a little more context.
