[... Forward. Where is forward, when they now lived on islands in a space of nothing? What would happen if she just kept running off the edge? At least in Horos she had been able to gallop, far and fast until her legs and lungs threatened to give out...

She wants to fall to the ground that she had been born to, to smear her sweat-stained face into the grasses that smelled familiar. She wants to go home, even she only gets a single day of living in it before she dies. At least- At least then those children would be alive... and maybe they'd be free. Kohibari and Koume would raise them, they'd be-

Maybe they'd be nothing like her, desperate and broken and holding onto grudges and honor so that she'd be holding something.

But then he mentions the Tree, that man (Cyrus, he'd said his name was), and Hayame finally does raise her head again, her hand falling away from her face, the pressure of her palm having caved the stained bandaging in to make the empty socket all the more obvious.]


The... [Ich... Ith...] The bead?

[She'd seen him giving such things to others, too, as she'd stared at the one in her own hand... one she still kept tucked away in her scant clothing. Kept safe.]

[Her fingers in the earth dig in tighter.]
