[Vander’s moves were almost automatic, the decades-old knowledge of how to fight dirty resurfacing with ease. The moment his hands caught on to Silco, he wasted no time in securing his grip to keep the slippery bastard from wriggling his way free. His breathing came heavier now, punctuated with a pained grunt as the knife found it’s way digging into the flesh of his arm. With as much determination as he could muster, he ignored the pain—kept his hold steady in the wake of it. He couldn’t afford to let go.

He’d made that mistake once before. He wouldn’t be making it again.

That pent up anticipatory anger roared in his ears to spur him on, urged him to correct the mistake that had haunted him for years, right here, right now. It was in his grasp, quite literally.

He tried to maneuver his hold into a headlock, but there was that knife to contend with—and the fact that Silco’s head slammed viciously up into his chin. Vander could practically feel his teeth rattle with the impact and taste a metallic tang on his tongue, and one hand—the one on his injured arm—began to lose its grip. Knowing that he would only have a moment to salvage his advantage here, he changed tactics. Silco would no doubt try his damnedest to pull away and seek distance, so Vander shifted his footing, moved to hook a foot behind one of his ankles and jerk it out from underneath him in one swift motion.

With a snarl, he shoved forward with most of his weight, intending to drag this fight to the ground.]
